Bohemian Like You - contemporary illustration exhibition

The Somethings Lab and Green and Fay are happy to present “Bohemian Like You” a playful illustration exhibition inspired by the image of the modern bohemian.

It’s 2011, distances and journeys are shorter than ever, we are used to travelling more often, for work reasons, for inspiration, for a getaway, just to visit a friend, or why not to make new friends?

If you are inclined to take lousy low-cost flights or prefer to spend 48 hours in a bus to enjoy the landscapes from the highway, if you don’t mind sleeping on a couch or wearing the same clothes for more than one day, then you belong to the modern bohemian family!

7 artists from France and Italy give their interpretation of the “bohemian” mood through a poster design :

Benjamin Pancakes (IT)
Claudia Carieri (IT)
Emilie Boudet (FR)
Joan Tarragon (FR)
Jonathan Calugi (IT)
Julia Wauters (FR)
Somethings Lab (UK-IT-FR)

Curated by: Somethings Lab

The Exhibition will crash for a couple of days at Green and Fay design furniture store :

Opening night : Thu 3rd November - 6.30pm - 9.00pm

Join us for drinks, music, meeting some of the artists, to share travel anecdotes and discover the poster collection before anyone else that evening. A copy of the posters will be available for sale during the opening night and the week end, the collection will then be lauched as a product in Green and Fay‘s shop and online store as well as on the Somethings’ online store.

Eyes Cream workshop! @ Designersblock - Clerkenwell

Grown ups go to Design Week to see fresh ideas and treat themselves with creative eye candy. For this year's London Design Week, we decided to create the same effect on the little ones.

As part of the creative workshops series organized and curated by Puff and Flock, we brought the Eyes Cream Lab to Designersblock's exhibition in Clerkenwell this September. It's a playful workshop that invites kids to create their very special ice cream with character as crazy as their imagination allows.

The ingredients were: paper cones, fluffy wool, balloons and super power flavours.

Enjoy the pics and don't try to lick your screen :)

Friends With You solo show in NYC - Dana was there

We gave a mission to colourful Textile Designer and friend Dana Haim who has recently made a move to Brooklyn, to live and work. Lucky ! :)
Since the Somethings couldn't attend this fabulous show this summer, we asked Dana to be our eyes and hearts, and to put words on it.

An exhibition heartfelt review by our NYC correspondant : Dana Haim

I did not even know this show was happening, but I was destined to bump into it one way or another. I never imagined it would have been when I was exhausted after a long day of scrambling around New York City. I was in high heels, computer in hand, portfolio, purse, water, and way too many things to properly see an exhibit, lets face it. But, when I saw the smiling faces at me, rotating kinetically in perfect harmony, one over another, moving in perfect grace, I just couldn’t help myself, and went in. As I entered the space, I immediately locked eyes with the other people in the space as they made their way out. Like a positive, joyful look that we gave each other, like we both took the time out of this crazy, non-stop day to just enjoy some magical smiling faces. That’s precisely what this exhibit was, a very sweet collection by Miami’s duo, Friends With You. This was their first solo show in NYC at the gallery on Bowery. The show drew me in as everything that I ever have seen from them has. Their work has this way of just making you want more, and just being so much fun to experience, look at, and play with. For years they have been using this toy inspired, cute style, but this was a very graceful and elegant approach to their usual, playful whimsy. I enjoyed how each piece was engaging with the viewer some how, whether it was by literally winking at you, or simply just rotating its smiling face at you. I accidentally almost tripped on a smiling puddle on the floor. The unique thing about this show, was also that it was done in collaboration with Vancouver based, Native Shoes. FWY created a mini pop-up shop for this brand that was open in conjunction with the show. The whole experience was a light, uplifting one where at the end of it, even carrying all my stuff, and feet hurting even more, I felt grateful that I stumbled upon this collaborative experience. It was Friends With You at their best, full or surprises and leaving me feeling positive, magical, and sunny for the rest of the day.

Something dirty!

We are happy to present John's last toy design creation for Okido magazine and the Wellcome Trust: it's iDirt, a cardboard tablet designed to make children learn fun facts about "dirt" by playing with the 16 activity sheets contained in it. Have a look at it here!

During the "Dirt Season" event, an Okido team composed by Sophie Dauvois, Matteo Oliverio and Grit Hartung also delivered a day-long workshop called Play Dirty (Wellcome Collection, London 23rd July). You can have a look at it in the research section of the Somethings' website.

Get Dirty :)

A worksHOPs month

The month of July didn't really look like normal holidays, instead of going to the sea your friend John (Matteo) went all around London city with his big roll of paper, sand bags, paint, pens, tape and foil to deliver some workshops for Okido magazine.

A big thank you to Hop toy shop for hosting four sessions during the whole month and to Marilou Rabourdin for co-directing and co-delivering:

Screenprint and stencyl workshop / 2nd July
Doodling workshop about the Weather / 10th July
Robots making workshop / 16 July
Dirt workshop / 24 July
